History

Divine Providence in Nicaragua, NFP was created in 2005. The organization is managed by a Board of Trustees which is composed by a group of individuals committed to improving the future of Nicaragua.

So far, Divine Providence in Nicaragua has assisted among others:

  • An orphanage in El Viejo providing clothes, a transportation vehicle, cell phone equipment, food, etc.
  • A primary school in Leon providing audio-video and computer equipment for educational purposes
  • Financial assistance to an orphanage in the city of Matagalpa
  • Financial aid to several needy families in Managua
  • Financial aid to the Xalteva church in Granada for use toward poverty relief activities

We aim to expand our activities by proposing specific projects for donors to evaluate and sponsor as well as through aggregation of small donations.

Mission

Our mission at Divine Providence of Nicaragua, NFP is to help eradicate poverty in Nicaragua. Our organization focuses principally, but not exclusively, on nurturing, protecting and developing Nicaragua’s greatest resource - its youth. In a country of extreme poverty, it is the children who suffer most from malnutrition, sickness, lack of education and overall poor quality of life. Our goal is to provide a safe and nourishing environment for children to grow and be educated so that they may blossom and build a strong and healthy Nicaragua.

Strategy and Our Operating Principles

Our strategy is to channel donations in a way that eventually makes the recipients of aid self-sufficient and financially independent. Our organization therefore targets donations equally toward:

  • Relief of immediate needs (malnutrition, sickness,
    inadequate clothing, etc.)
  • Shelter, basic literacy, medical treatment to improve quality of life (correction of handicaps, treatment of chronic diseases, etc.)
  • Primary and secondary education, vocational training, preventive health care, job placement assistance

We believe in maximizing the value of donations and in total financial transparency through the following operating principles:

  • Donations are fully utilized toward aid for recipients - all administrative costs are met directly by the Board of Trustees
  • Almost all of the work involved in fund-raising is performed by non-salaried volunteers
  • Donations are matched with well-defined and structured relief projects so donors know exactly what is being done with their donations
  • Donors are encouraged to become and stay involved with the projects they contribute for and with their recipients
  • Our projects are subject to totally open and transparent bidding processes, stringent quality control and subject to audit by independent accounting firms
  • All contracts and financial records for every project are available for review by the donors who financed them upon their request

Finally, our organization aims to work with a network of partners in Nicaragua such as schools, orphanages, churches, clinics and other institutions to deliver the needed goods and services within our financial oversight and project management.
